Apples?  Seriously?  Whatcha talking about Gena?

An apple.  That’s what the fashion industry says I’m shaped like.  Wikihow.com says “If you have an appleshaped body, then your body is “top heavy,” meaning you have a wide torso, broad shoulders, and a full bust, waist, and upper back. Appleshaped bodied women also tend to have thinner arms, legs, and hips, and tend to gain weight at their waistlines.”

While I know there are people that are shaped like this, I’m quite certain we aren’t all the same in that case.  For example I’d probably define apple shaped as being a person who is narrow at the hips and carries most of their weight in the middle region of their body, at the waist and in the butt.

Why am I even blogging about this?  Because it’s hard out there as an apple shape to find clothes that don’t accentuate your appleness.  While there is a surge for plus size fashion and options, a lot of those options use fit models that aren’t apple shaped but maybe are more pear shaped.  A pear body shape is one where most of your weight is situated around your thighs, hips and buttocks and you have slim arms and shoulders and a bust that is smaller than your hips. … The pear shaped body has a wider hip and backside area than the upper body, according to wikihow.com.

So what do we do appletini’s?  I do a lot of testing on what works best for my shape.  Some of my favorite items just don’t work for me.

Here are a few of my fave go to items or silhouettes that are flattering!

Dresses, as you can tell on my ig I am a dress girl.  Best type of dress for an apple?  A line, it gives us some space to hide our middle a little.

Here’s a great example from anthropologie,

Or this from modcloth

Now for pants, I go either a legging with a long ish top or if I don’t’ want a legging I go for Eloquii’s Kady pant in the Gena fit.  Yes, I’m biased, but these are the best pants out there for an apple shape.  I was the fit model for them, so we know it’s realistic.  I will do a blog post about that another day.

As a tip, I hardly ever tuck anything in with pants or pencil.  It’s not really a look I’m comfortable in.  And I never wear cropped shirts with pants.  Again, I’m about not bringing too much attention to the apple parts.  But if you are into that, go for it!  I won’t ever tell anyone to change what they are comfortable doing.

I will wear a crop top with certain types of skirts.  In fact, this is one of my favorite looks.

I’d definitely do a crop or tuck in with a skirt like this one from Torrid.

For now, this is a start of some reco’s for an apple shaped body.  Let me know what else you’d like to see here on the blog or on my IG for inspiration.
